3rd Floor Common Room, Friday Late Morning [after Period 3]

Tori flopped onto the couch, deciding on the common room instead of her and Angela's room. She turned on the television and flipped through the channels, until ESPN caught her eye.

They were rerunning the surfing competitions from the 2003 Summer X Games. Tori grinned and watched with elation as Kelly Slater took to the waves.

And no, that wasn't Tori taking down notes on technique and style, while watching Kelly own the waves. But it totally was.

Conner sort of bopped his way into the common room in search of milk to go with the abnormally huge bear claw he'd picked up from Jeff's this morning.

At least he had another one in the paper bag he was holding.

"Hey, Tori! Whatcha --" He nodded knowingly. "You look just like me when there's a soccer game on."

"Hey Conner!" Tori chuckled, glad to know he understood. "Two peas in a pod, that's us."

She sat up, so there was room for him on the couch, if he so chose to sit there. "What's up?"

"Eh, nothing much, really." Forgoing the milk for the time being, Conner vaulted over the back of the couch and dropped onto the seat beside her. "Bear claw?" he asked, holding the bag out.

Tori smiled, amused at how much he reminded her of the guys sometimes. They too employed the 'vaulting over the back of the couch' technique.

"Oh, sure. I don't think I've ever had one before." She had gotten pastries from JGOB before but hadn't tried the bear claws.

Maybe it was a guy thing. Maybe it was a Ranger thing. Maybe it was a Disney thing. Who knew, really?

"They're good," Conner promised her. "Haven't tried anything at Jeff's that hasn't been, really. Hey, is this a rerun? I swear Eric's made me watch this one with him a few times."

It could be all of the above, honestly. Oh, Disney. Tori wouldn't have objected to any of those choices.

"I'll take your word for it." She grinned. "Yeah, of what little I've tried from there, it's all been great." Tori admitted. "It is. I never get tired of watching Kelly Slater dominate out on the water." She chuckled. "He would."

Well, at least Disney didn't feel the need to CGI someone vaulting over the back of the couch into something less dangerous-looking . . . why, no, I'm not bitter.

"Of course he would. But it's not like I haven't forced him to watch every World Cup with me either, right?" Conner asked around a mouthful of bear claw. "I know what you mean. Beckham's totally overrated, but I can think of a dozen different soccer players I could watch in reruns for years. And that includes Mia Hamm and Brandi Chastain."

Ignore the "rowr" look on his face.

Tori laughed. "That's Eric for you. Oh, well, you have a point." She nodded, smiling, taking the other bear claw. "The same goes for me with the surfers out there. There are so many that I could spend hours watching, especially the up and coming athletes. Sometimes, they're even better than the surfers who've hit the spotlight."

Tori was totally ignoring the "rowr" look on his face. Really, she was.

"Because the status and endorsements haven't gotten to their heads yet, and they do it because they love it?" Conner guessed. "Dude, that's why I love watching college soccer. Or, like, women's soccer. And don't even get me or my player started on this insane deal Beckham signed with the L.A. Galaxy, because that's just crazy."

Conner had a poster of Brandi Chastain in her sports bra hung on the wall where he could see it from his bed. He could totally relate. "You are kinda in your element there, yeah." Rimshot. "I'd rather stick to dry land most of the time, I think. I'm not exactly a great swimmer."

"I spent all my time running around with a soccer ball growing up. Where was I gonna find time to learn to swim?" Conner asked, laughing. "Besides, Reefside doesn't have as much beach as Blue Bay Harbor does, and my mom had issues about the public pool."

Conner took a bite out of his bear claw. "He's doing great. Travels a lot, comes home and usually breaks things while he's there. He sounds happy."

"I'm glad to hear that." She laughed a bit at the breaking comment. "Well, I guess it's okay, as long as he doesn't hurt himself or anyone in the process."
Tori smiled and was glad to hear he was happy. "Where has he been traveling?" She was curious.

"Too late for that," Conner admitted. "The not hurting anyone in the process, I mean. But it wasn't really his fault -- I mean, the cat got in the way and . . . yeah. And I'm not sure where he's been exactly. All over the place. Last I heard from him, he was all excited over running into Kelsey Winslow in Mariner Bay."
