Second Floor Common Room, Sunday Evening

The television had decided it had a mind of its own, or it was just glitchy. Every few minutes a new show would come on. First it was that crazy soap opera with the dummy/puppet boy, then it was Wormhole X-treme: Shangri-La, then Bitterwoman (of course).

Kawalsky was in the common room with a couple of pizzas, knowing that it was always wise to bring extra if you were going to eat in a public space.

Miley wandered through the common room to find food and spied Kawalsky and his pizzas. She decided he was a friend she needed to make and took a seat nearby him...and his pizzas.

"Hey, I'm Miley."

"I'm Charlie. Pizza?"

"Yay!" Miley grabbed at a slice and grinned. "It's great to meet you, Charlie and thanks. I'm starving!"

"I find that people are always happier to meet me when I have pizza, but I'm cool with that. So you a second floor musketeer or an outsider who wants to leech off our overwhelming coolness?"

"Musketeer." Miley said with a grin. "I'd probably be happy to meet you without pizza, but with pizza you get knighthood and best friend status."

"Cool," he replied with a grin. "Sometimes I even make pancakes on weekends. Not this weekend though. That would've meant getting up early, and that wasn't gonna happen."

"Ooh, pancakes! I'd set my alarm for that, even though I'm not a morning person." Miley made a yuck face. "Why didn't you want to get up?"

"I stayed up all night playing video games. Same ol', same ol'."

"That's cool." Miley mumbled around a bite of pizza. "What sort do you like?"

"I'll play pretty much anything, but I've been getting through Half-Life and Half-Life 2 lately. Shoot 'em ups, monsters, that kind of thing."

"My brother has those, I think." Miley nodded. "Those and the stealing cars one."

"There are a lot of stealing cars ones. Those are fun. You got a big brother or a little brother?"

"I always crash into someone. Which I don't actually mind all that much."

"Jackson's my big brother. Just by a couple of years though. What about you? Any siblings?"

"You!" Zero said. "Little sibling who I hardly ever see!"

"Hi Zero!" Miley covered her mouth as she spoke around a bite of pizza. "How've you been?"

"Cat-shaped," Zero said matter-of-factly.

"Cool?" Miley said, not really sure if that was some sort of British slang.

Zero shrugged. "Well, I'm glad to have my thumbs back."

Miley blinked. "You really were cat-shaped?"

"Said I was, didn' I?" Zero asked as she reached for a slice of pizza. "It happens, now an' again. Word of advice? Don' touch Special Collections books bare-handed."

"Thanks, I'll remember that." Miley said, wondering for a moment if whatever made Zero turn into a cat was contagious. "Not that I've spent a lot of time in the library yet. The classes are kinda weird."

"Library's got all kindsa not-classes stuff, too. Like, the complete works of Angelica Demesnes. Very swerval books. But you didn't hear that from me. Just, um, don' sign anything in there, yeah?"

"What kind of animal do you turn into if you sign something?"

"So far, you just wind up enslaved to the library for a year. Or, I did."

"Yeah, I think I'll just hit the bookstore in town if I need something to read." Miley said with wide eyes. "As I'm not really fond of slavery or changing into a cat."
