Second floor common room: Wednesday morning after first period

It was Valentine's day. Jack had it on good authority that it was a day dedicated to love and romance, the inevitable outcome of which was pretty much always sex. That made it his kind of day, and - seeing as he hadn't done anything for his birthday yesterday - he'd decided to do something for Valentine's Day.

Which was why he'd picked up some handwavy supplies after Spy Tech, and commandeered the second floor common room kitchen for the making of pancakes. Heart shaped pancakes, in fact.

This is not easy to do when you've only got the use of one arm, the left one being tucked away in a sling to keep it from moving around. But he was managing, sort of, accompanied by occasional swearing as he missed a flipped pancake.

There was strawberry syrup, maple syrup, chocolate syrup, and lots of whip cream (though it was the kind that came in a can) along with a slowly growing stack of pancakes.

[ooc: open of course - heart shaped pancakes for all!]

River neither agreed nor objected to that. For all she knew he might be right. She found it difficult imagining a life without Simon, but even that might happen. He needed something in his life apart from looking after her.

"I'm sure you could offer advice," she said, referring to the crime career. She picked up the cream can and began creating a cream pattern on her hand.

Putting the can down, River licked the cream of her hand, creating a new pattern. "I know. I'll miss you." She glanced at him, suddenly realising how much. "Jack? Before you go..." She interrupted herself, shaking her head.

"Some other time," River replied and smiled. "Fandom won't be the same without you," she said teasingly, but of course, that was how she felt.

Licking the last of the cream off her hand, River laughed at his comment and then slipped one arm around him, giving him a gentle hug, careful not to make the shoulder hurt.

And River felt happy hearing that. Words made a difference to thoughts, after all. Reaching up, she gave him another kiss on the cheek. "Thank you for the pancakes."

"Wouldn't have left it in your shoulder," River replied. "Wouldn't have suited you." She turned and headed back upstairs.
