Third floor common room, Saturday morning

Even before he opened his eyes, Leto knew where we was. He had fallen asleep on the couch in the common room together with Alice, the two of them still in the formal clothes from last night and wrapped in blankets, Alice wearing some kind of fuzzy slippers. He had been generous enough to let Arthur have the room, but it had turned out better than he expected for himself too.

Leto stretched, careful so as to not wake the still sleeping Alice. Reaching out to wrap the blanket a little tighter around her, he smiled. He found that he was quite happy, and attributed this to the good company.

The murmur of voices inside his mind stirred, but he drew a deep breath, and didn't listen. Slowly he got to his feet and crossed the room. Coffee was needed.

[Alice modded with permission. It's an open common room!]

"Morning," Ender said, walking into the common room. It wasn't his own, but he'd been out wandering again last night. It hadn't seemed right to go back to his room. So it was the third floor where he'd ended up-- he kept his voice hushed a little, and the greeting was mostly just learned formality by now.

"Is there any tea left?" he asked; after spending the last chunk of the early morning working with the flowers, he was a little thirsty. Steps brought Ender near where Leto was standing, and he glanced back at Alice once.

"I don't drink coffee," Ender said, "But tea helps. I just spent the morning delivering flowers." It was simple, easy information to share, and he gave Leto a greeting smile. "I'm Ender."

Ender watched him back, quietly, and then took the water, pouring himself a cup. "I'm not going to attack you with the usual line of newbie questions," he said, "How was the dance?" Small talk was starting to come, even if he didn't like it much; he blamed Ben.

"Either one works," Ender said, reaching for a tea bag. "I'm not particularly picky. I wonder if the island is going to throw something at us for the theme, though." He didn't sound that worried about it, because he wasn't-- the island revolved as it did.

"I spent the evening as a no-dancing zone," Ender replied, a little bit amused still at Triela's reaction. "I'm a part of StuCo. We set up the dance. General conversation is my interest."

"Which is why it covers talking to anyone on this island," he said, and put the tea bag in his water. "People will pick the slant that works for them."

Alice was less aware of her surroundings, but she was comfortable, and warm, even if the rhinestones across her back were beginning to itch. Rhinestones were enough of an oddity to convince her to open her eyes.

Ah, yes, the common room, and Leto, and the dance, and its aftermath. A lovely evening, over all.

She rubbed at her eyes and sat up, keeping the blankets wrapped around her.

"Good morning," she said. "Did you sleep well?"

Alice wondered if she snored. She should ask Francine.

"I should have slept better if not for the rhinestones," she laughed, leaning gently into the touch. He was far more tactile than she; although perhaps it was more truthful to say she was too long out of practice. Her family had been quite free with affection. It was a welcome habit to re-learn.

"That is, perhaps, several questions in one, is it not?" Alice said, already settling in to play. "If there is something, and whether you would like to offer that particular assistance. You are quite generous, this morning."

[identity profile] notyourpawn.livejournal.com 2009-02-14 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"I drink it but rarely," she said. "I usually drink tea, though I have been told that's a result of me being quite terribly English. Though I find little terrible about it."

[identity profile] notyourpawn.livejournal.com 2009-02-14 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"Perhaps I have, indirectly," she mused. "Perhaps what I wished, more than anything, was to play with words with you, once more, and telling you that would ruin the fun. Or perhaps I'm still considering, and stalling for time."

She shifted closer to him. "This is a rather comfortable couch," she observed. "I fully approve. And do you like coffee? I would imagine you are at least passably fond of it, else you wouldn't drink it."
