Roof, Monday Night
In some ways, it felt like just yesterday that Elena had gotten here. In others, it had been ages.
One thing she was sure of: she was never going to get tired of coming up to the roof and watching the stars at night. She pulled a cigarette out, lit it, and looked for falling stars.
She didn't know any of these constellations. Maybe she should make up her own.
(Very open!)

"Hello?"

See? It counted as a greeting if you offered the other person some of your nicotine.

She gave him a curious glance. "What do you do, instead?"

And so she found the roof with people to visit. Which really she knew about.
"Mmm. Clear night," Layla replied. "With just a hint of tobacco. Throw in some giant robots and radiation and it'd be just like home."

She held out the pack of cigarettes, in case the other girl wanted one.

Fair warning, and all.
"What sort of radiation do you have, back home?"

Amazingly, the Stigma hadn't come back. Which made that a rare occasion where something went right on Gaia, and didn't subsequently crash and burn.
"Does Jersey have plates?"

No, really, you'll have to imagine it, because none of it made it anywhere near the surface. "Elena?"

"I'm not from here," she apologized. "Our stars look ... nothing like this, really. Is it that ... big-ish one, near that little clump, or the one a few inches up and a little to the left?"
Or the far-too-likely option C, none of the above?

"That one," she said. "That's ... your home."
She watched it for a few seconds in silence.
"Wow. That's incredible. Does that .... help? Being able to see it?"
She wondered if she'd feel less homesick if Gaia was one of these twinkling stars. Or more.
