Fifth Floor Common Room | Evening | Monday | January 11

Having all of his classes tomorrow didn't mean Bod was going to stay in his room and make it an early night. He'd thought about taking another walk down to the graveyard but decided to save that for later in the week. There was time and Bod knew neither he nor the graveyard was going anywhere for awhile.

So, he'd wandered down the hall, book in hand, to the common room. Yeah, he knew he could have just closed himself in his room to read but the common room was bigger and had food. Food that Bod immediately started scrounging for. It was a little difficult to do considering he was holding his book open with one hand and reaching blindly into the refrigerator with the other. He'd pulled out the box of baking soda three times.

Putting the book down would have been easier, Bod knew, but not as fun. So, he kept trying. That box of baking soda got pulled out two more times.

"As long as you weren't actually going to eat the baking soda, that's not too strange," Bruce said. "Especially not for Fandom."

"I don't even know what the baking soda does," he admitted, giving his shoulders a shrug. "Is there a reason it's in the refrigerator with all the food and drinks?"

"It'll absorb odors in the fridge," Bruce said. "So if food is left in there too long and starts to go bad, it'll be somewhat less awful for everyone."

"Oh." Bod nodded. It made sense, more than he'd have thought, and appreciated the baking soda a little more. "So, it's supposed to be there. For a moment, I thought it was misplaced. Finding the television remote in there would have been more obvious, I guess."

"More troubling would be finding the baking soda on the couch," Bruce noted, turning the remote example around. "Then you'd have to wonder what kind of odors somebody was trying to absorb."

Bod paused, considering that and then made a face. "From what I can tell, the couch smells fine. Of course, now I'm going to be wondering about that every time I come in here."

"From what I've heard of this island, it might not always be the easy," replied Bod, sliding into his seat and closing his book.

"Maybe not, but its a start," Bruce said. "But I'm not looking forward to the day we have to deal with something like that. It's apparently bound to happen eventually, though."

"Not really." He didn't see a real need to wish for a fight. "If this island's like everyone says it is, I figure it'll happen sooner or later. Is there really a need to wish it happen now?"

"Of course," Bruce said. "And it's not like there's any reason to wish for something you know will happen."

"Right. I apologize for that assumption." He didn't like assuming anything that radically different and knew when an apology was needed. "There's nothing wrong with being prepared though I've heard it's hard to prepare for the unexpected. The unexpected, in this case, being what might show up."
