Third Floor Common Room; Monday Morning [10/28].

Now what kind of buck futtery was all this, then?

Monday Morning Breakfast was going to be a bit later than usual today, because of course Wayne would have spent a good chuck of time when he first arrived in the common room trying to figgur out all that was wrong with the lights. It did start to become clear at some point, though, that, whatever it was, it was more'n likeleh just the island messin' with them as it had been pretty consistently for the last week, so Wayne, running out of logical solutions to an illogical problem anywhey, just said fuck it and got to cooking by candlelight, because everything else was working and then there was the fact that he'd opened a drawer to find nothing but tapered candles just waiting to be lit.

Gave the whole place a certain atmosphere, that was fer sure, especially when you considered all the scurrying in the shadows and especially if you considered that the scurrying today sounded quite a bit different than the usual scurrying of squirrels he'd gotten quite a bit used to.

[[ i'd have a candlelit breakfast. Open, of course! ]]

"It's like we're in one of those American movies with... old people and fancy shirts," Okuyasu said. "Like we should be carrying around a big candle-holder thingy with three candles on it wherever we go, looking sad and underfed."

"Oh no, I'm the handsome man who would come in to make everything better for the poor underfed lady," Okuyasu said. "That's what always happens in those movies. Which is kind of boring if you think about it. How often is a man going to sweep in and solve all your problems?"

Like, never, right?

Okuyasu was, in some ways, quite literally spare parts, given how he'd been basically resurrected twice by Josuke.

"I'll always take free food," Okuyasu said, going to give Wayne a friendly clap on the shoulder. "Helps with the budget, after all."

He laughed a bit at that. He was weirdly fond of his... care with his money.

"You're a very generous guy," Okuyasu replied with a grin. "I'm really lucky to know someone like you around here."

He took the plate and started eating. "And you're probably the second best cook I've ever met."

"That's be Tonio back in Morioh," Okuyasu said. "Your cooking is good but not 'gives me entirely new teeth' good. Even the water in his restaurant was the best I've ever tasted!"

It really was a unique dining experience.

"Those are the best stories!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Nina said, laughing. "I love books with that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's just, like, so atmospheric!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Not that it had stopped her from wreathing herself with a halo of golden light so that she wasn't stuck in the dark, mind, but.

She liked those stories.

"Hi, Okuyaaaaaaaaaasuuuuuuuuuuu!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How are you?????????????????"

"...you're glowing," Okuyasu pointed out with all manner of lack-of-tact. "Is this something you did or are we all going to become candles too?"

Nina laughed.

"I am glowing," she said cheerfully. "I did it to myself and, like, I could make you into a—candle—if you want????????????????? I just didn't want to sit in the dark!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

"You have a... you have special powers?" Okuyasu said, actually learning not to instantly ask if people had Stands anymore.

It was only ever going to be him. "Like... magic?"

"Magic," Nina confirmed, smiling. "And, yeah, I'm a pretty good mage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

'Pretty good' was underselling herself. Nina wasn't in the top 1% of mages, but she was easily in the top 10%, possibly top 5%.

"Wow, I didn't even realize!" Okuyasu said. "This is probably way fancier than being able to pull a rabbit out of a hat, eh? Like you can... erm, I actually don't know anything about what a real magic person can do. Probably a lot?"

He was rambling, it was early and he wasn't quite firing on all cylinders.

Awwwww. But it was kind of cute!

"I can do a lot," Nina admitted, since it was true, especially if she was given enough time to prepare. "Mostly, though, I summon things??????????? Like, today I'm summoning light?????????????"

"Like... you can make things appear?" Okuyasu said, trying to think about what that meant. "So you could make a rabbit appear, but it wouldn't just be a trick?"

"Is that what American entertainments are like?" asked Tisarwat, cradling her cup of tea between her hands and feeling like a terrible Radchaai because she still couldn't quite figure out which one she'd ended up making that morning while she couldn't see very well. "That sounds about as dreadful as their system of government."

She took a sip of the tea, and smiled when she lowered the cup again. "Good morning, Okuyasu. How are you?"

[personal profile] handystand 2019-10-28 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, nyeh," Okuyasu said, suddenly self conscious about not wearing his gloves this morning. "I'm fine. Feeling a little silly that I complained about things around here being too quiet with all the odd things that keep happening."

He rubbed his hands together a bit. "And you? How are you doing?
lilac_eyed_lieutenant: (errrmm....)

[personal profile] lilac_eyed_lieutenant 2019-10-28 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
For the most part, Tisarwat felt she'd gotten good at generally not paying attention to people and their ungloved hands, but it was almost impossible to do so when he was just rubbing them together like that. She was, however, very proud of her ability to hold back a wince.

"Fine, thanks," she nodded. All the heist stuff was giving her a little bit of a headache at this point, but she didn't want to complain. "And I don't think they've been...too odd." Her gauge for that sort of thing was a little skewed, though, admittedly. "I'd rather have cats everywhere and those bird creatures in cute costumes over some of the other stuff that's happened before..."

"That's a good point," Okuyasu said. "It beats having to deal with serial killers or weird creatures that are out to get you. Or that time we were all toys."

He shook his head and made a face. "That was really bad."

He still didn't care to be around stuffed animals after that business.

"The toy thing happened before I came here," Tisarwat said with a sympathetic sort of look, sipping her tea. "It sounds like it was very...odd."

She sipped her tea again, and then blinked. "Oh!" she said, wondering what had gotten into her and was pretty sure it had to do with hands. "Tea. I haven't offered you any tea yet, Okuyasu. Would you like some?"

[personal profile] handystand 2019-10-29 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
"That's almost getting to be my favorite part of these," Okuyasu said with a little smile. "Not that coffee is bad, or that tea is more traditional in Japan, just... it's way better than Wayne's coffee."
