To get in the spirit of the upcoming trip a little, Wayne decided to do a few things...different for breakfast that morning, after doing a little bit of research over the weekend and figuring there's be all sorts of fuss over him deviating from the typical fare as if he didn't ever do anything like that before.

Sure, sure, there were still all the usuals. You had to have pancakes 'cause they were the foundation of the tradition, and all the usual meats and eggs and potatoes and fruits, but he thought he'd also throw in a little tapsilog and some tortang giniling with pork in there, too.

Because, when you got right down to it, they weren't really that far from the stuff he'd traditionally make, anyway, just with a little bit of a touch of something new and interesting. Which was a thing he did, from time to time, it was just not anything he planned on getting too carried away with!

Just don't expect him to actually pronounce the names of the food properleh. He couldn't even get some English words right, after all.

Well, great. Now that his brain had gotten all on track with it, here Sabine wanted to throw things into reverse, and Wayne wasn't quite sure his mental train tracks were capable of such a maneuver.

"You can't jus' go back," he decided. "It's already said'n done. Y'jus' say, 'oh, not so bad,' and then I say 'fix you up a plate?' and you say something like 'sure' or 'thanks' and then I fix you up a plate, and we're back on the right foot, pitter-patter."

"Oh, not so bad," Sabine said, which now felt like a weird response.

No, you didn't jus-- You couldn't jus-- That wasn't--!

A low, uncomfortable rumble escaped from Wayne as that felt almost even more disconcerting, and, in an eagerness to just get away from the increasingly disjointed mess, he said, quickly, brusquely, "Fix you up a plate. Good! Way ya go!" almost entirely in one breath and with the most efficient plate loading he'd done so far, then handed it over to Sabine with a faint desperation in all the otherwise rote and familiar motions.

"Thank you," she said, taking the plate. "I could have left and come back, you know."

Wayne's whole brow seemed to squint over the fact that maybe that would have been better, but that wouldn't have set right, either.

"Would've jus' been a waste of time, wouldn't it?" he said. "What's done is done and can't nothing be done about what's done."

Except move on, steadfastly, which was hard if people wanted to keep on talkin' about it...

"Sure, okay," she nodded. "So how're you doing?"

Which she'd asked before.

Maaaaybe she just wanted to see what would happen now?

"Good'n--" Wayne started, stopped, looked suddenly deeply uncomfortable as he seemed to be squinting down the barrel of a fully-loaded time-loop, and then emitted a deep, low grumbling sound that sustained itself for a good while.

"Fine," he said, firmly, and eager to pull himself out of mire of his compulsion, swept in with a, "So! School trip next week, huh?"

"Yep!" Sabine agreed, and she had to give him credit for getting out of that. "Are you going?"

It had not been easy!

"That's the plan," Wayne drawled, with a particularleh skeptical squint, because the word 'plan' around here seemed dodgey at best. "The Philippians; you ever been?"

"The only places I've been are the ones we've gone to for school," Sabine answered. "Well, on this planet."

And she was pretty sure that wasn't how "the Philippines" was pronounced.

It was absolutely not pronounced that way; that way was what you got when you made typo on a work-rushed ping, and yet no one could really tell because something like that from Wayne...did sort of check, and was kind of magical.

"Y'wanna know what?" he mused. "I'm surprised we haven't taken more trips out on other planets. Can't even really argue the logistics of it, because we've got portals, right? Though I guess it makes sense, too, if most of the students aren't from Earth to just stick with Earth since it's all pert'near new fer most of us, at this point."

"It is an idea," Sabine agreed. "There's not much to this solar system, but there's plenty of other places in the multiverse."

But Earth was also attainable jealousy-inducing

"Well, you would have to definitely go past the Milky Way," said Wayne, with the sort of assurance belonging to a person that knew about space travel even though he decidedly did not, "clearleh. But I wouldn't mind goin' to the moon someday. I know there's not a whole lot to see out there, but it'd be kinda nice jus' to say you've been."

"I don't have even tangential access to a ship anymore, or I'd offer to help you out," Sabine told him.

"You'd need more'n jus' a spaceship, anywhey, wouldn't you?" Wayne mused. "A spacesuit, too, at the very least."

There was an oddly thoughtful pause.

"On account of the moon havin' hardleh any atmosphere," he offered.

Helpfully.
