The Roof, Monday Afternoon

Well, Owen had learned one very important lesson these past 48 hours: he was absolutely, positively, totally not ready to be a father.

Still, that wasn't any reason to be weird about it, right? Or at least... weirder... than... a certain treshold of weird. Yep. Yes.

"Picnic on the roof," he declared, gesturing broadly at the spread - picnic blanket, basket, food - he'd put down on the roof. He grinned sunnily at Anya and gave her a thumbs up. "Dig in!"

Oh, please have this work.

"I mean, you're my girlfriend. Feels a bit weird pretending like there's no universe where we don't have kids running around, right?" Owen said. "... Like twenty years from now when I'm grown because I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing right now."

Nina... Nina was not going to mention that she had no intentions of waiting until she was thirty-five to have children.

But, yes, she was more than willing to wait at least five.

"I guess," she said, not really wanting to go into how she'd kind of thought he wouldn't want to talk about it the same way he hadn't wanted to talk about the whole unable to fight thing. "If it makes you feel better, you're doing okay with Anya???????????????????"

Well, one of these topics hewed very closely to Owen's lack of self-worth and self-destructive urges to prove himself wrong, and the other was just... kinda weird?

"I'll... take anything that isn't 'causing direct psychological damage'?" he said. He shot her a wry smile. "How have you been holding, uh. Up?"

"I don't know," Nina admitted, making sure the kids didn't hear her. "Mostly, I'm not thinking too hard about it????????????????????"
