The Laundry Room; Saturday Morning [10/08].
Maybe it was a little foolish or silly to get all tangled up in strange feelings about something like helping someone out with their laundry, but getting tangled up in strange feelings seemed pretty much Libby's default setting these days. She was really hoping that maybe the school trip would help get her mind off of some of it, but she also knew that they'd all still be there when she got back. But, she figured, they could wait. She probably wasn't going to have much opportunity for things like trips to different countries if it was true what Just had told her, that their father was looking to set her up with a courtship and a marriage, so she really needed to enjoy it while she could.
But she was trying not to think about that right now. She was just trying to focus on a simple thing like laundry, and helping out a friend (who, by the sounds of it, really needed it) with his, and nothing more than that, and her own, much smaller pile of clothes that didn't really need to be taken care of, but it was probably a good idea to get it out of the way before leaving for the trip, anyway.

"Oh hey, Libby! You made it!" he said with a grin as he ported into the laundry room, an over-stuffed clothes bad slung over his shoulder. He dropped it to the floor along with the other bag already there from an earlier trip.
"I... I'm glad you came" he said with a shy, almost apologetic smile as he looked from the bag to Libby and then dropped his gaze a bit.

But the reprimand, the criticism, retreated almost before she'd finished with the thought, pulling it back as she reminded herself that it wasn't really her place to say anything, and, even if it was, nagging him about it wasn't the way to do it. She'd have to remember that sort of thing now. Being a good helpmeet wasn't something that came natural to her, not like it did with Patience, and so this, maybe, could be good practice for her.
"Of course," she said, nodding, giving Kurt a faint smile and trying very hard not to comment on how it was a good thing that she had stepped in to help with this, but she really had to ask, eying the bag he came with and the one that was already there, "Are these really all yours?"
How in the world did he even have this many clothes??

It was pathetic, Kurt realized it. He just wasn't that good at the whole laundry thing for some reason. Honestly, if it wasn't for his folks and Storm and Kitty and the others at the Academy he'd probably still be getting by with just a handful of outfits and one set of bedding. So it wasn't totally his fault there was so much!

"We should probably start with the bed things," she decided with a nod, "since they'll take a bit longer in the dryer."

As he started sorting through the pile, he glanced over at Libby now and then. He wanted to ask if she was already, tell her he knew she wasn't feeling good and wanted to help, but he also didn't know what to say really. And he would probably just go and say something to make her feel worse unintentionally.
"So, how do you think they are doing room assignments this trip?' he asked, finally unable to stand the awkward silence.
no subject
"I'm not really sure how they did the room assignments for the last trip," Libby admitted, "but I'm definitely looking forward to seeing who I get paired up with."
With Vi spending more time over at Steph's now, she was really starting to feel a certain kind of loneliness that she'd never really known before, that she never really could know before, with how she grew up.
"I was with Jo last time," she recalled, "and so that was a great match. I wonder if they try to keep the same pairings? Or do they try to mix it up a little, especially with new students?"

He hesitated a moment then glanced at the pile at his feet. "Should probably do sheets and blankets separate, right?" See, Libby? He was trying! He just wasn't that good at it!"
no subject
"Anyone in particular," she then ventured, because talking about proper laundry techniques did not exactly a riveting conversation make, "you think would be fun to room with?"
no subject
"I think rooming with anyone would be a lot of fun. Though I have to wonder if they are going to make the rooms co-ed or not. But as far as anyone in particular... I am not even sure who all is going to be honest, though I guess most of the school will be going."
Kurt had a thought flash through his mind, for a split second, and it almost came out before he was able to catch himself. Luckily he did, because saying out loud he wouldn't mind being roomies with Libby for the trip was probably the worst thing he could have said at that moment.

She cleared her throat a little bit as she tried to ignore the nervous clenching in her stomach at the idea, and just kept separating the clothes. "I don't think Vi is going," she said, quietly, regretfully. "She turned into a kitten earlier this week, and she probably won't turn back in time for when we leave...She has Steph to take care of her, though, so that's good."
Maybe she'd even like that better; that way, she wouldn't be missing Steph the whole time she was gone, either.

There were plenty of horribly awkward and flail-inducing options, sure, but none of them would be awful, or anything...

Sorry to anyone who had to step over him.

....and if she should just go ahead and do his laundry for him, too. If he didn't wake up, she probably would. The urge to do so was only going to grow exponentially the longer he slept...
no subject
"Oh!" he said. "Libby, hi! When did you get here?" Had he been out long? "...is it still morning?"
no subject
And then she considered Gray's.
"Would you like help with yours, too?"
At this rate, her guilty conscience was going to lead her to just doing the laundry of everyone in the dorms.
no subject
Of course, in those days his family had mostly hired their laundry out...
no subject
They were useless for actually getting things done, of course, but at least they were cute!

"I usually just fell asleep and woke up when the project is over," he confessed. "Of course, I still do that..."

So a good time had by all.
It did not take much to entertain a Hazlett.
"How very convenient," Libby noted with a small grin. "I'm sure your brothers appreciated that, too."
no subject
Anyway. "Are you going on the trip?"
no subject
"And, yes," she smiled at him softly, "I am going. I wouldn't miss it for anything. Are you?"

Aaaand guess who now wanted to go find a book about pirates and would probably be imagining that very thing every so often next week...
