2nd Floor Common Room | Sunday Morning

There was weird stuff happening on the island again and Jim wasn't affected. He'd woken up as himself and he'd stayed himself and he was still currently himself while sprawled on one of the couches in the common room.

Considering classes were done for the term, he probably should have still been asleep instead of up this early and out of bed but he couldn't resist the allure of possibly seeing some people he knew acting like people they weren't. He was an opportunistic jackass that way. But, he didn't think he could be blamed. If people were gonna go all weird, he had the right to laugh at them if they did stupid stuff, right?

Right.

He figured he had to be properly awake to do anything though so he was eating some 'borrowed' cereal and watching some motivational on TV to get himself going. Except all the TV was doing was boring him so he hoped the cereal was really magic or something to make up for it.

[Jim's normal and the CR's open]

"But... the books!"

He couldn't wait for Fosse to lumber all the way to the library to take care of it! There had been books that needed saving!

"Just saving the books is its own reward," Evan stated, solemnly. And then he kind of laughed, ducking his head a little. "Which makes me sound like a huge dork, I know. But... Books are pretty great. I mean, there's a reason I work in the library, you know?"

"Well, most people can't change their arms into mops, either," Evan offered, "so I'm not going to hold that against anyone."

He gave his feet a little swing, and then smiled at Jim curiously.

"Have you got a favorite?"

"Oh, wow... that's a good one, too. I mean... it's not a happy read, but it's definitely a fascinating one. It sums up human nature really well. And survival of the fittest."

And the fact that those words just left Evan's mouth had him sitting there and blinking for a moment. And then deciding that maybe he probably shouldn't read that book again, himself. For reasons.

"There's a reason I have a dog," Evan decided, breaking into a grin. "He's sleeping in my room right now, or I'd introduce you. He's really good for depressing-book therapy, too. If you need to borrow one the next time you read it, Ozzy loves attention, and it's hard to be depressed when you have a stubby half-husky wiggling in your lap."

Half husky, half corgi. It was like the dog was made to be a study in adorable.

... And also high-energy, and wilfulness.

Oh yeah. Evan could see the stoicism dripping from Jim's every pore.

"When a book manages to make you actually feel something even after you've put it down, that's definitely a sign that the author did something right," Evan agreed, smiling. "And Golding did a great job of that."

"Don't worry, I'm pretty good at keeping a secret," Evan solemnly swore. "But there's nothing the matter with having a bookworm side, either. Promise."
