When she had returned to human shape after her week as an owl, River had found dead voles in various stages of decay littered on the floor. Having collected the intact ones she had placed them in perforated containers hanging from the window, and inspected the process regularly, despite Berthold having issues with the smell. Now most of the soft tissue was gone and she proceeded to the final stage of procuring clean, intact vole skeletons. She put the carcasses in a big pot and boiled them.

The smell of rotten meat filled the common room and the remaining pieces of dried sinews and muscles floated to the surface of the greying water. River watched with great interest.

Buffy wasn't sure if people would show up, since it was technically vacation time, but she thought she'd show up at the gym anyway. She arranged things, and then began doing flips.

Karal arrived at the stables, cheerful because Altra was back, even if he'd woken only long enough to eat several tins of salmon and was now snoring on his bed again.

It only took him a moment to notice something was missing.

"Where is my horse?"

[ooc: it is open, though first for the missing horse aka myself]

The gym was set up with left over cookies, drinks and much space for the audience to watch the cheerleaders perform. Buffy would probably go out and bodily drag audience in if necessary, but she hoped the combination of cookies and short skirts would do her job for her.

ooc: wait for ocd. OCD is up! GO GREMLINS!
[identity profile] 1ordinarygirl.livejournal.com
Buffy had missed the cookie baking today. She'd been too busy doing the finishing touches on her plan for the show later today. It was going to be awesome.

She went to the gym and made sure no one had disturbed the cheer camp set up. Then she waited around for the rest of the cheerleaders to turn up.

"Okay! This practice is really important, 'cause our show is at two o'clock. Make me proud," Buffy gave them all stern looks. "I've split us into groups based on, like, who's been attending." She went on to list the names and their groups, and finished with, "Oh, and remember the glitter for the show! ...And left over cookies if there are any."

Hey, nothing drew an audience at this place like free food.

ooc: wait for ocd! OCD finally up!

Annette was in the kitchen and surrounding her were tons of moddable ingredients for all kinds of cookies. There was frosting galore and decorative toppers for lots of creative cookie fun.

She was in a great mood and feeling much better. There was music playing and she was humming, tying on an apron as she pondered what to make and waited around for the other cheerleaders, and anyone who wanted to stop by and eat their yummy cookies and support the Fandom High Gremlins! Wooo!

(ooc: minor ocd coming up!)
[identity profile] 1ordinarygirl.livejournal.com
Buffy had managed to get up for cookies today as well and was happily munching on one while setting up for today's practice.

When people had arrived, she beamed at them and said, "Hi all! Today we're only going to practice for three hours - until lunch - and after that there'll be a water gun fight against the Flag Football types!" She bounced. "Make me proud!"

She went on to outline what they'd do today. "We're going to be working on what Mister Deadpool and Aly taught us today, and then we'll start putting it all together for our show." She paused. "If you have any glitter lying around, remember to bring it tomorrow!"

ooc: ocd coming up! very up! Come cheer!

Jack, in his rather pleasant new body, had been for a
handwavy
run around the island, and now he was was sprawled on the couch in the common room, shirtless. Seeing as he'd promised Karal he'd behave, he was avoiding temptation by staying away from Cedric, at least for the moment.

Flipping through the channels on the TV, he couldn't settle on anything, but he had the remote, so, "Channel surfing it is."

[ooc: *cough* Ignore that brief timeslip that temporarily hurled the common room forward one day. It's been fixed now.]
[identity profile] 1ordinarygirl.livejournal.com
After spending time with yummy cookies, Buffy bounced over to the gym to make sure everything was ready for another day of hard cheering.

She refilled some water bottles, and pulled mats back into place, and went to fetch a cd player and a bunch of cds, and then she started stretching while waiting for everybody else to show up.

ooc: ocd to come is up! Cheer time!
[identity profile] savedfornow.livejournal.com
Claire loved spirit baking almost as much as she loved cheerleading.

Well, she did, when it was something she'd do at home. But even without the mother-daughter bonding thing she still took an inordinate amount of pride in her range of butter cookies, all made from scratch. So she was up early in the common room, icing blue and yellow patterns on to the cookies as she waiting for the first person to turn up.

[OOC: open post, no need for an OCD.]
[identity profile] 1ordinarygirl.livejournal.com
Buffy had been bouncy since she woke up. She'd raced to the gym to set everything up, get a whole bunch of water bottles arranged in a cooler and make everything ready for a day of awesomeness.

It was important to start the cheer camp on a high note.

ooc: OCD coming up up and ready!
[identity profile] moonbrain-tam.livejournal.com
This was the week of Cheer camp, and that involved cookies. River wasn't quite sure why cheering and cookies seemed to go so well together, but she wasn't going to object in any way. Definitely not. She had signed up for arranging the Thursday morning cookie baking, so here she was, arranging ingredients on the worktop, waiting for other cheerleaders to show up and help with the baking.

[Wait for OCD! OCD are up! Cheerleaders, please help bake cookies! Non-cheerleaders, please help eat them!]

Buffy was very bouncy. Very, very bouncy when she showed up at the gym with a bunch printouts. It was cheer time again! She was looking forwards to seeing the cheerleaders, and oooh, new cheerleaders!

Buffy bounced again as she waited.

When people started arriving, she began handing out the Cheer Camp Yay! printouts which listed everything the Gremlins would be doing over the next four days, starting tomorrow.

Johnny was pissed. And he was freaking hungry. His tongue was still firmly attached to the roof of his mouth and every now and then he would have to wipe the drool that pooled in the corners.

He was sitting on the lawn, bemoaning his sad state with little mumblings that made no sense whatsoever. He should have set the old hag on fire. Dammit all.

Being hungry, River had considered going into town for a Sunday brunch, but had decided on staying in and doing the cooking herself. Rummanging through the cupboards and the fridge she found enough to feed herself and probably half of the fifth floor should they want to. She chopped onion, apples, pecan nuts and biscuits and mixed it with egg and bacon in a frying pan into something that resembled an omelette. It smelled delicious, and she hummed happily to herself, dropping some pieces of apple on to the floor for Berthold to catch.

Mel was out later than usual patrolling the vampire free island and is still feeling the effect even after her morning class.

Which is why she's slumped on the couch, barely awake and wondering why small children from some reality show are telling her to play a pretend instrument so that a car with drums for wheels can go faster.

"Come on now, Carmine
You can win the race
Because you are an amazing music car!

Mel stared some more at the screen and wondered if someone had slipped something into her coffee.

"If we want Carmine to go faster, we need to help him by playing our bass drum. Take your hand like this and beat your pretend drum and go BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!"

Mel took a sip of her coffee in the vain effort to get herself awake enough to change the channel.

River had woken up early, vivid dreams still clear in her mind. They had taken her back to Miranda, to the fight against the reavers, twisting the real events so that her enemies had just kept appearing in a neverending flow. It hadn't bothered her though, quite the opposite. Upon wakening she had remembered the calm and precision, and the confidence that her she could keep her friends safe.

Down in the gym she tried to recapture that feeling, the reavers only in her mind and pompoms instead of knives. It wasn't the same, but she kept moving, kept struggling. "Weapon without a target," she mumbled to herself, synchronising the words with the movement.

Wearing the thick sweater and tweed pants Umbridge spelled onto his body, Johnny was grumpy as he sat down to find some sports on TV. The sweater was itchy and the pants were just ew. Like something someone's grandpa would wear. What the hell?

He was really kind of pissed his acting didn't work any better than it did. He could have totally burned to death and she wouldn't have touched him. Not even a stop, drop, and roll. The woman was freaking crazy.

"Maaaan, this sucks."

The decrees issued by Principal Umbridge were becoming increasingly ridiculous. In a quiet and possibly not noticed way, River decided to break the curfew one by sneaking up on to the roof late at night. She lay down on her back, her arms stretched out and stared up into the sky. It was mostly cloudy, but here and there faint stars were visible between dark blue stretches. Even though the background noise was faint, River practised putting up a barrier, making the world around her go silent, and she could pretend she was floating in the blackness of space. She had a good imagination after all.

Trenor was a very good horse, obedient and well-behaved, but he was also bored, tired of being stuck in the stable, and missing Karal. After several days of fidgeting, he finally worked out how to lift the latch on his stall door, and that would be why there was currently a horse in front of the dorms.

He'd tried to get into the building, but the doors were shut and apparently horse proof, so after a long sigh, he'd settled in to graze.

In the early part of the evening, Abigail headed down to the common room, and set up for the party. There were snacks and non-alcoholic drinks, along with a few opaque bottles of alcohol that were all labeled at the bottom with what was inside. If she was going to get into trouble for her efforts, at least she'd get into a lot of trouble at the same time.

Next to the snacks were a bowl of breath mints, and a sign labeled "RULES":

1. You don't have to kiss anyone you don't want to.
2. You don't have to kiss anyone period. Passive voyeurs are welcome. Dirty voyeurs will get kicked out.
3. If you take pictures, you must promise to send a copy to Abigail Whistler, or your camera will be taken away.
4. All kissing must be done with someone of the same sex. There's liquor here for a reason!
5. If you move past the kissing stage, take it to a room unless you're comfortable with everyone watching.

Yeah, she definitely wasn't going to be telling her dad about this the next time she called home.

After returning to the dorms from her job at the hotel, River decided that she needed something else than a quiet Friday night. Guns weren't quiet. She could also use some practise. When arriving at the shooting range, she posted the rules:

SAFETY RULES:

· TREAT ALL GUNS AS IF THEY WERE LOADED

· KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL READY TO FIRE

· BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT’S BEYOND

· ALWAYS WEAR HEARING AND EYE PROTECTION

· NEVER USE ALCOHOL OR DRUGS BEFORE OR WHILE SHOOTING.

· CHECK IN ALL WEAPONS BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE RANGE.

While she no longer considered the dead voles a good meal, River still found them interesting. The smell was not appealing however, and it did seem to upset Berthold as well. Remembering that a good way to keep the skeletons intact while getting rid of any soft tissue was to place the carcasses in containers with pierced lids, hang them outside and let smaller organisms to finish the eating and then boil the remains. She hadn't done that since she was a child - and learnt all the parts of the skeleton a lost faster than Simon had - so it seemed like a good idea.

She placed three dead and semi-devoured voles on the kitchen worktop and began to rummage through the cupboard for suitable containers.

Jack had started the morning by taking himself for a run. A long run, out through the preserve, then down along the beach, through town and back to the dorms.

Clutching a bottle of water, he flopped onto the couch, feeling as close as he ever got to virtuous, happy to simply sprawl here, lazy and shirtless, contemplating the possibility of doing exactly nothing for the rest of the day.

With class done with for the day, Lucas settled on the couch in the third floor common room with pizza. Yes, pizza for breakfast. And he wasn't stupid, either. There was plenty to go around in case the smell attracted other like-minded student types.

"Okay," Dawn said, looking at the counter. On it were several mixing bowls, eggs, flour, baking powder and soda, sugar, brown sugar, and many, many different kinds of things to get mixed into the cookies. She set the cookie sheets aside and tried to decide if she should cook the bacon while she waited for River.

"I think that's everything. Oh, wait! I forgot the blueberries. And the pepper!"

She went to get them out of the fridge and cupboard, respectively.

Today was a day for gym practise, River decided, but not for fighting - unless anyone should ask her for sparring, of course. She found a rhythm to it, as if there was some kind of music playing in the room.

Karal was leaning against a tree, notebook resting on his knee, writing diligently while Trenor grazed on the long line. It had been too long since he'd done this, he was incredibly far behind in his notes, but that wasn't actually what he was working on. He was composing a letter. So far he had: Dear Molly.

It wasn't off to a fantastic start. He frowned thoughtfully and stared up into the sky, watching the rising sun burn off the morning haze.

:Just write the thing, will you?: Altra demanded, rolling onto his side. :It can't be that difficult -- 'How are you, I miss you, it's foggy, see you on Friday.':

"Altra!" Karal shook his head and tossed a balled up bit of paper at the Firecat. "This is important. Now hush, I want to get it right."

Claire did nothing all week, and this was OK by her. She wandered town, she hung out in her room. And quite amazingly, not once did she break a leg or another bone almost die or actually die or have to be rescued or anything.

She could get used to this.

She wasn't so sure she could get used to the smell of smoke that was beginning to permeate her room. So while her roommate was in class, she opened the windows as far as they would go, switched on a fan to get the air circulating, and decamped to the common room, where she was now curled up on the couch, channel surfing for sitcoms and painting her fingernails.

Qui-Gon had recently discovered television and while it seemed primitive in some ways compared to the holos that were the closest equivalent, he was finding the range and content of the programming rather fascinating.

He was particularly enamoured with those programs showing disputes being arbitrated. The cases seemed to be mostly about petty little things and not the life or death issues the Jedi were often called upon to help settle, but it was interesting to watch the different ways the judges sorted out the truth of the situation.

And besides, Judge Judy looked a lot like one of the Jedi Council members, which added a whole other level of amusement to Qui-Gon's viewing.

Flipping through the channels today however was not yielding the programs in their usual places and he settled instead on some kind of large musical concert that seemed to be commemorating the planet.

· ALWAYS WEAR HEARING AND EYE PROTECTION

· NEVER USE ALCOHOL OR DRUGS BEFORE OR WHILE SHOOTING.

She'd never been on her own here before, but it felt like a good step. Perhaps the practise itself wasn't as essential as reminding herself what she could do when she had to. She enjoyed this.

On her return she'd brought the Navy Colt Jane had given her to the weapon's locker, and now she picked it up, slowly turning the weapon in one hand.

Johnny started with a five to ten minute aerobic program, then he followed with stretching exercises to all muscle groups. Moving on from there he performed a light work out with adequate resistance, causing his body to warm considerably.

After that, he began a series of dumbell exercises, from flat dumbell presses to incline flies. He was working his upper body strength today as well as his abs and legs. Now he was working on front raises with his knees slightly bent, the dumbell against his thighs, palms towards his body.

It was a great work out and one he needed. He had been neglecting his body for too long. Imagine that? And wanted a good work out this morning that would last a good couple hours. More than likely it would be followed by a swim at the pool.

From the dorm roof you got a good view of the result of the alien attack.. Perhaps not the most uplifting thing to look at, or a pretty sight, but River found the location fitting. She'd called Jack like she had told him she would, asking him to join her here, and now she was just standing there, waiting, leaning against the edge of the roof.

She'd brought food, in this case more than enough pizza for the two of them, and drink, which had been a more difficult choice. She'd ended up with sparkling wine of the non-alcoholic kind, the lack of alcohol due to the fact that she had no intention of falling asleep early tonight. In addition to this she'd brought a few blankets as well as proper plates and glasses from the common room kitchen.

But food wasn't the most important thing she'd planned for this night. Having borrowed a CD-player and an assortment of CD's, she'd hoped there would be something suitable for dancing to. Not that music was really essential - she could always listen to it in Jack's mind - but it was a lot more fun. For once, she'd also made an effort with her appearance and actually enjoyed it. She wore one of her newer dresses, a red one that Buffy had suggested to her. Her hair was arranged using the hairpin that Parker had given her - the beads on it moved nicely when dancing - and she wore the opal pendant Jack had given her for Christmas. Bare feet had perhaps been an unwise choice considering there were some debris from the blown-up buildings lying around, but she chose not to worry about that.

River smiled to herself and traced a pattern in the dust on the roof edge with the tip of her finger.

Jack had made a handwavy trip into town for supplies this morning, which he'd laid out on the kitchen counter. Everything one might need to make Devil's Food Cake. And everything one might need to make another, in case the first one went horribly wrong.

Sam was going to successfully cook something today if it killed him.

Why cake? It seemed appropriate given it was Sam's birthday, and there were two small packages sitting on the counter next to one of the bowls, wrapped in shiny silver paper.

Now all he needed was a Sam.

It was with great seriousness that Zachary Uriah Addy made his way to the common room, dragging a cart piled almost as high as he was with books and pieces of lab equipment behind him.

It was morning. Dawn was just breaking. Jack was awake.

His last class ever - not that he was thinking about that, nope, not at all - wasn't until later, so where he should be was curled up in his bed. But he'd slept badly and woken early, so where he was was standing on the lawn outside the dorms, staring warily at the sky. It looked like a storm might be rolling in.

Jack stretched, shook himself all over, and started to run. Long, slow strides as he warmed up, making his way down the mostly empty streets until he hit the beach where he sped up, running easily, veering down to dodge the waves. Reaching the end, he pushed himself up and over the rocks, nimble footed as he made the top and stopped to stare out over the ocean. It looked dark and cold, reflecting the grey clouds.

You can only do that for so long before you start to feel stupid, though, so - feeling stiff and sore, because it had been a long time since he'd run - Jack jogged slowly back to where he'd started. Panting, he threw himself down on the ground under a tree, flopped onto his back, and watched the sky, wondering if the storm would arrive.

River had no classes today. In fact she didn't have anywhere she needed to be today. She didn't even have much studying that she actually needed to do, but she had decided to skim through her notes anyway, while lying on the couch in the common room.

"Trees are to be treasured!" Tributary yelled, marching around the lobby carrying a sign decorated with a crying tree. "Not used for toilet paper!"

Blair waved his own sign, a roll of toilet paper with a big X over it, at River and grinned. She and Ananda were standing on the sidelines, acting as either bodyguards or very silent protesters. With a tired look, River directed Blair's attention to Tributary. Kid-watching was easier when you could read what they were thinking about doing.
